Aroma and the Sensory Experience
Hosted by Emily Sieme
The world of fragrance is vast and interpreted many ways through media and advertising, but our personal impressions, experiences and emotions have the strongest influence on what scents we are attracted to. In this workshop, we will discover the basics of Aromatherapy and discuss how we map the sensory experience in both the physical body and the emotional body. As a group, we will explore our personal connection to aroma by smelling some common essential oils, sharing stories and then each person will select what resonates the most to craft their own custom perfume oil roller to take home.

Emily has been teaching yoga and healing practices in New York since 2015. When Emily began her yoga journey, it was in an attempt to heal past injuries and reconcile years of being hard on her body. It was through a dedicated practice and lots of patience, that she learned to embrace the power of process, with humility and playful movement. Not only did her body began to heal, but her heart, mind and soul began to blossom too. Emily has always been interested in personal care rituals and how we form relationships to ourselves and others through shared sensory experiences. In addition to her yoga training, Emily is also a graduate from FIT's Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing program where she learned the ins and outs of developing products for personal care: one of only 25 people a year accepted into the specialized program. She has been blessed to work in visual merchandising in London, as well as in doing education and strategy in New York with brands recognized for their creativity and mission, such as Aveda, Bumble and bumble, Redken and Malin+Goetz.
