There is a universe of energies that exist inside each of us that reflect the movements of the Universe around us. These energies are subtle and barely felt and yet have a profound impact on our sense of health and wellness.

In this 9-class series we will explore the rich theory of Chinese medicine through Qigong practice and lectures designed to identify and connect to the subtle aspects of our body, mind, and spirit. Chinese medicine’s rich metaphorical language, which highlights how things relate to each other and change over time, is able to give words to things we cannot properly name through the dominant Western-European mindset but which we intuitively know exist. Qigong practice is a powerful way to bring these subtle concepts to the surface and brings to life Chinese medical theory through movement, visualization, mantra, breathwork, and self-massage.

This class is designed for those with no prior knowledge of Chinese medicine, Daoism, or Qigong and is ideal for those curious about Chinese medicine, those receiving acupuncture who would like to know more, or those who are curious about sensations in their body during practices like Qigong or Yoga. This class can also be taken as a review for Chinese medical practitioners and students who would like to deepen their connection to the medicine through Qigong practice.

Dr. Kat Brady, LAc. will be our guide through this journey of self-discovery. They are a licensed acupuncturist and certified Qigong instructor in the Ling Gui lineage. They have a deep reverence and understanding of Chinese medical and Daoist theory with the ability to translate these concepts for a modern audience. When they began practicing Qigong over a decade ago they quickly began to have a sense of the movements of Qi in their body, which brought them to the study of Chinese medicine to find the answers to the numerous questions they had.

In each 1.5-hour long class, we will go over different concepts from Chinese medical and Daoist theory and practice specific Qigong exercises that connect us to these concepts. We will begin by exploring the differences between traditional European and Chinese worldviews, the all-encompassing nothingness of the Dao, the polarity of Yin & Yang and how they interact within the space in-between, and the 5-elements. As we continue we will build upon this foundation to explore the concepts of the 12-organs of Chinese medicine known as the Zangfu, the 12 primary and 8 extraordinary acupuncture channels, and the rich theory of Chinese medical pathology. Finally we will briefly explore topics such as acupuncture, Chinese nutrition, and Chinese herbal medicine to help empower each student in their own healing journeys.

No experience required. Each class will be crafted to be accessible to beginners and long-time Qigong students alike.

Classes will be taught online over Zoom. It's advised to find a quiet place to practice where you will have room to move around. Comfortable clothes that are easy to move in are recommended.

Please inform Kat of any health conditions that may impact your ability to perform the movements in this class.

This class will take place on Saturdays at 11am PT. Replay video will be available for missed classes.
