Coming Home to Community

At our Firebird community healing gatherings, we meet a lot of folks seeking connection. We are honored to hold space for seekers, those new to Portland, queer folks, trans and non-binary babes, women, parents, men (sometimes!), young, old, in-between, people of color, neurodivergent and differently abled folks, those experienced as well as completely new to magic and healing. The common thread that connects us all is a desire to be held in a container of community connection. As humans we are pack animals, meant to be around other humans for co-regulation, for witnessing, for exploring and understanding the world and ourselves. We are not meant to go it alone (nor should we have to!).

In gathering together with the intention of healing and deepening our magic, we open a tender portal — a liminal ceremony space where anything is possible. Where for an hour, or two, or more, we take time away from our responsibilities, our dependents, our jobs, our phones, our cars, our housework, our homework. For that time together we can be more fully ourselves, or at least begin to learn what it means to feel like ourselves, unfiltered, and unrestrained.

While each ceremony and event is different, they each hold space for a depth of self-exploration. To understand our wounds, our curiosities, our desires, and what we can actually do to bring about fulfillment and pleasure in this lifetime, in the here and now. They also usually have an element of fun or creativity woven in! Whether that is through dancing, writing, singing, crafting, or just cracking silly jokes together that we can all relate to. You can’t have the bitter without the sweet!

In gathering together with community, we see our experiences reflected in the mirror of those we are in circle with. We also see - and celebrate - our differences. In each witnessing one another in our realness and vulnerability, we expand our world views, and soften our hearts deeper and deeper into compassion. We are each the teacher, as well as the student.

The biggest blessing of the Firebird temple is that we get to welcome in such a variety of folks of different identities and backgrounds. Those who have been rejected or othered by society or their families of origin are welcomed into our spaces with open arms, and enthusiastically praised for that which makes them unique. We get to create a home, even if just for a little while, where we all feel welcome, and are able to take up the space and receive the care that we so deeply need and deserve. Firebird is the community you can come home to as your curious, weird, witchy, spiritual, wonderful self.
